Raveendran, also known as Raveendran Master, was a master of Malayalam music who composed songs for more than 150 films in Malayalam and Tamil languages. He was born on 9 November 1943 in Kulathupuzha, a village in Kollam district of Kerala. He had a passion for music since his childhood and joined the Swathi Thirunal Music College in Thiruvananthapuram, where he met his friend and mentor K.J. Yesudas.
Raveendran started his career as a playback singer with the song "Parvanarajanithan" from the film Velliyazhcha in 1969. He also worked as a dubbing artist for films and lent his voice for actor Shankar in Aranjyanam in 1982. However, his true calling was music composition, which he pursued with the encouragement of Yesudas. His first film as a music director was Choola in 1979, which had the hit song "Tharake Mizhiyithalil Kannerumayi" sung by Yesudas.
Raveendran soon became one of the most sought-after composers in Malayalam cinema, known for his melodious tunes and innovative orchestration. He blended Carnatic and Hindustani classical music with folk and western elements to create a unique style of his own.
